Professional Experience

I have been teaching since 1970 ending my full time career in a High School as Head of Department in 2009. I have taught in a wide variety of schools in the local area ranging from Primary (ages 5-11) to High School (ages 12-18). I have also taught children with special educational needs both in Special Schools and within mainstream schools (Music to 'A' Level; English, Maths, RE to GCSE).

Teaching Career

I studied at Wentworth Castle College of Education (Sheffield University) 1966-1969 as a Junior School teacher (ages 7-11 = years 4-9). My main subject was music.

My first teaching post was as a class teacher in 1969 followed by a variety of posts in Primary, First, Middle and Secondary Schools teaching Music, English, Maths, RE, until I left full time teaching in 2009 at which point I was Head of Department in a High School. I have worked in all of the authorities of Tyne and Wear although as a Tutor I prefer, but not exclusively, to work north of the Tyne.

I began working as a Private Tutor in 2012.

CRB Check

I had a full CRB check in 2013, which was carried out by STC, a Supply Teaching Company, for whom I am currently employed.

Successful OFSTED Report

I received several successful OFSTED reports; the latest, in 2009, whilst at Hilton Red House High School.

Additional Information

I have 5 children whose ages range from 19 - 34. This caused me a number of gaps in full time teaching but allowed me to experience a greater number of schools whilst working as a supply teacher when my children were young.

I became interested in Special Needs Education through work at Southlands and Barbara Priestman Schools which has given me experience in teaching children with mental, emotional and physical disabilities (Aspergers, Autism and multiple disabilities among others). I have been personal tutor to various classes which allowed me to develop pastoral skills with the pupils in my care.

I have taught in faith schools and I and my younger children are involved in an Inter Faith group comprising Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Muslims and Jews.
